Brunei- What a pleasant surprise!

I flew from Borneo to Brunei with Brunei airlines. I was surprised about how spacious the airplane was and I recieved juice and a free pen. I landed in brunei and went through customs and was greeted by my driver from the hotel. I thought this would be the one place where I wouldn't make any friends but sure enough I met a girl called Sanny from Italy in the car on the way to the hotel and we spent the rest of our time in Brunei together exploring.

We arrived at the hotel which was really nice and had a pool. The people were lovely and the hotel was very modern.

Sanny and I walked from the hotel to the centre of town. It was so hot! Brunei is very modern with lovely looking buildings:

We went to another bizarre museum called the Royal Regalia museum which is a a museum dedicated to the gifts the Sultan of Brunei receives from different countries. We had to take our shoes off on the way in and weren't allowd to take photos. There was stuff everywhere. It was strange to see the really poor countries give really expensive gifts. We also discovered that the UK gave a red coat uniform and Italy gave him a watch! This was slightly embarrassing considering the gold modal palaces, expensive paintings and jewellery he received from poor countries.

After looking at the museum we walked round the town centre for a while looking for food. It was ramadan so proved a little difficult but we eventually found a supermarket and ate food quietly in a corner.

After, we found the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque but with it being Ramadan we weren't allowed inside.

We then went to the the biggest stilt village in the world by boat and was surprised to find it to be really modern. Proper houses with satellite tv.

There were schools and community centres and cafes. However after walking around for a while we did find some parts to be in need of repair:

After our wander round the stilt village we went back to the mainland and found more statues:

Took more pictures of the mosque:

Then headed back to our hotel and spent the rest of the day in the pool.

I really enjoyed Brunei. It was clean, modern and I made a new friend. Definitely worth a day trip.

Now at last I was off to Australia.....
